Burning the Candle plot
Under the moonlight of the southern sky, Molly Carrington, daughter of the South, pledges her heart and hand to "Jimmie" Maxwell on the eve of the young man's departure for New York, where his knowledge of cotton has earned him a lucrative position in a cotton broker's office. They marry and depart for the metropolis. As Maxwell transitions from his calm and quiet family life to the maelstrom of worldly strife, he succumbs to the lure of drink and is dragged from a tough husband into the depths of Demon Rum depravity. He loses his position, and Molly leaves him and returns to her southern home. Will Maxwell be able to turn the tide?
