Breaking the Ice plot
Boy soprano Tommy Martin (Bobby Breen) gets hold of a pair of skates during the musical "Breaking the Ice". He escapes from his relatives, who are strict Mennonites, and gets a singing part at an ice theater in Philadelphia. Tommy's widowed mother is treated badly by her family. Tommy, however, tries to scrape together so much money with his performances that he can support his mother himself.
