Bread plot

Sisters Alice and Jeanette Sturgis want to help their poor, single mother. Alice does this by getting married and starting a family of her own. Jeanette starts working as a stenographer. Later, she marries a salesman to avoid a scandal. Jeanette quickly becomes disillusioned with her marriage and leaves her husband. Three years later, she returns to him, wanting to start a family of her own.
