Birds of America plot

"Some families defy classification."

Morrie is the oldest of three children and raised his younger brother Jay and little sister Ida after his parents died. Now he lives with his wife Betty in the parental home, is a teacher and has problems with his bowel movements. The neighbor's dog does not have that and does his business in Morrie and Betty's garden. His neighbor is his superior at work, and in order to get a permanent position, he complies with his wishes. Then Jay is beaten up and hit by a car. Morrie takes him in and Ida moves in with them too.
