Local reporter Adam Carlson (John Krasinski) can't wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska to discover a bigger market. But just as he has a scoop on the most important item of his career, the rest of the world is starting to show up too. When an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descend on the frigid region, Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore) is the most concerned for Adam. Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she's also his ex-girlfriend. When time runs out, they must face an unlikely alliance of indigenous people, oil companies, and Russian and American military personnel to free three whales trapped in the Arctic Circle.

Not the best film, which, despite the mediocre plot development, still looks pretty good at first. But during the running time of the film, it becomes increasingly sentimental and also more annoying. So not worth it at all.

Adventurous family film by the book, in which a group of people stand up for a family of whales that have become trapped under the ice. The outcome can be predicted, but it entertains, looks away well and does little wrong. Nice characters, with nice dialogues and subplots. 3*

I bought this DVD for 1 euro. So why not give it a try? Well, it actually all went well. The story is true, which makes you think a little longer. I'm also going to look up some facts on Wikipedia. The whales look good. Totally not fake. The cast plays quite nicely, but it's all a bit bland and exaggerated. Anyway, for 1 euro it is quite worth it.
