Bang! You're Dead plot

Young Cliff Bonsell (Anthony Richmond) and his best friend, record enthusiast Willy Maxted (Sean Barrett), regularly play on a disused military property, where Cliff lives with his widowed father Bonsell (Jack Warner). Cliff is fascinated by guns, but can't see what they can do. He becomes a real plague on the population when he finds an old service weapon and mistakes it for a toy. One day, along with Willy, he encounters the maligned Ben Jones (Philip Saville) and his father's words "If something is not wanted, it is better off dead." Later, Ben is found dead by Bob Carter (Michael Medwin), with whom Ben had a fight over the flirtatious Hilda (Veronica Hurst) and for that reason he immediately becomes the prime suspect in the case. Police Inspector Gray (Derek Farr) comes to the village to investigate.
