Mallika lives with her mother on top of a hill in a small village. Kalidasa, a local poet, visits them regularly. Mallika and Kalidasa are in love, but Kalidasa receives an invitation from a king in Ujjain based on one of his poems to become the official poet of the court. After much hesitation and discussion, Kalidasa decides to accept the offer, after Mallika encourages him to do so...
