Jen Shaw is the daughter of a very poor farming family Mark and Min Shaw. Mark and Min have a deep distrust of their new neighbors, the Janowskis. Not only because they are first generation Poles, but also because they used to live in distant Boston. Despite her parents' opposition, Jen is in love with Stan Janowski. But trouble looms in the form of Jen's stepsister Doris, who also has a crush on Stan.
