Howie Sheffield is having a tough year. He broke his arm, and besides, he and his little brother Simon were reluctant witnesses to the crumbling of their parents' marriage. The only thing keeping him alive is the mysterious Odessa, a young woman he sees every day on his morning bus route. Soon, Howie's worlds begin to collide as he cultivates a tentative friendship with his seductive classmate Lindsay, while Odessa is drawn into his circle and his parents grapple with the issue of whether to stay together or break up.
