Ah! Nomugi Toge plot

Central Japan, around 1900, many poor families send their young daughters through the Nomugi Pass to work in the silk spinning mills in Okaya with their handy fingers. This meant a long perilous journey in the middle of winter, and the girls did not see their family for over five years. In the silk mills, the young girls have to work hard in hot, humid conditions and are often subjected to sexual harassment. Yet they keep their spirits up and try to lighten their lives with humor.
