A Woman There Was plot
Zara, daughter of chief Majah, falls in love with Pulke, a pearl diver. When the New England missionary Winthrop Stark arrives, Zara has no time for Pulke but offers her love to Stark, who rejects her because he expects to marry a girl from back home. Pulke, jealous of the missionary, tries to kill him with a spear, but Zara protects him at the risk of her life. When a typhoon strikes the natives, they decide to offer Stark as a sacrifice to appease the gods, but Zara saves him again by offering herself in his place.
