The Brighton family is shocked by the news that John's wife Ellen has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at a relatively young age. Ellen is rapidly deteriorating; she exhibits hostile behavior at times, she no longer recognizes her husband and children, and she is no longer able to take care of herself and the household. Not only do the children have to find their way in this difficult situation, but John is also going through a period of crisis. As a successful businessman, he is under great pressure, and his colleagues do not understand why he does not have his wife admitted to a nursing home. John makes a difficult but courageous decision that takes on a new and deeper meaning for his wedding vows.
