What struck me in this film is that the "junkie" is immediately confronted with the worst thing you can imagine. How is it possible that you are still alive, and all your organs in your body are so fucked up that if you use anything else you will die right away. Now that is possible... but it came to me clearly, as dear people never do drugs! typical American wise talk (which you encounter in many American films). For the rest I thought it was a nice movie with a nice role by Billy Bob Thornthon.

A Million Little Pieces was not really a good film for me as a whole. The story is a bit standard and things happen where you also ask yourself is this normal... The acting was mediocre, I couldn't really empathize with the whole. It was over and I was actually at peace with it.

Based on the book of the same name by James Frey.

In 2006, author James Frey had to admit publicly that the book was not a memoir, but pure fiction. Oprah Winfrey was one of his biggest supporters at the time. She redacted her support and publicly shamed him for telling the lie as the truth. This as he took advantage of it during an episode on January 26, 2006. The book of the same name became controversial, after Frey was exposed for fabricating a story originally presented as a memoir. After the book was published, Warner Bros. planning to make a movie of it. This with Orlando Bloom and Josh Hartnett in mind. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson is married to lead actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Ryan Hurst and Charlie Hunnam were previously seen together in Sons of Anarchy. Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi previously appeared together in The Other Sister.

This is another typical movie that teeters on the edge between fair and good. Perhaps it would have been much more interesting if they decided to film the controversy surrounding the book. However, the film has its moments, and knows how to drag you into the story to a certain extent. A story that later turns out to be pure fiction. According to the doctor, James Frey was almost dead. This on the basis of his vital organs barely working. However, he looked perfectly healthy in the film. I think I prefer a story that is just based on pure facts.

2.5 *
