A Horse with Hope plot

Pan-Pan is a boy from the Shui minority in the mountainous province of Guizhou in China. He is quite a closed and unruly student. His only friend is a reddish brown horse who considers him her foal. When Pan-Pan's grandfather has to sell the horse to pay off a debt, he cannot accept it.
