Nicely made film about some pioneers in psycho-analysis.

Not a subject that people deal with on a daily basis - or not at all - but still fascinating to follow the many exchanges of thoughts and discussions between the 4 thinkers. The cinematographer's credit for having presented it as such. In the beginning, the viewer does get the opinion that it is between Jung and the totally devastated Spielrein (Keira Knightley does indeed act very violently), but this only turns out to be the reason for much more ideas in the film.

All high-level actors, including Vincent Cassel, as Gross, who will certainly be back in his role.

"Don't you think there's something male in every woman and something female in every man?

Well I do believe that when I see this movie with Keira without make-up who suddenly has a very masculine face in some parts..

Apart from that, I think she's really bad acting here. I could normally always appreciate her, but after seeing this, I find it annoyingly bad acting. Now that I think about it, it never occurred to me that I actually don't like her at all. It just becomes clear to me that I find her acting way too exaggerated in all the movies with her way too exaggerated facial expressions.

On the other hand, I thought that other blond woman, unknown to me, was very pretty. Not that it matters anymore haha

About the movie, well. However, a bit boring and too long-winded. Not much happened. Sometimes even sleep-inducing dialogues.

Was expecting more.

The genesis of psychoanalysis relies pre-eminently on psycho-babble and seems totally unsuitable for a visual medium. But Cronenberg's attention to historical detail and the craftsmanship of the cast (particularly Fassbender) keeps this interesting. Carl Jung [Michael Fassbender] takes Sabina Spielrein [Keira Knightley] under his wing at the Burghölzli clinic in Zurich in 1904. Analyzing Sabina's dreams and thoughts makes her stable enough to use her own medical background to help Jung with further psychoanalytic research. Jung and Sigmund Freud [Viggo Mortensen] exchange their findings and there is an interesting role for Vincent Cassell as Dr. Otto Gross, a brilliant doctor who believes that you should never suppress (sexual) impulses and is therefore declared crazy in all respects.
