Sumperk, Czechoslovakia 1945, the disappearance of Agnes, the German wife of forester Jan Olsan is a mystery. Only she herself knows who is looking for her and why they are looking for her. The end of the war is approaching and the Russians and Czech partisans are approaching the border. Jan meets Jurgen, his German brother-in-law, who is also looking for Agnes.
