New York, 1912. 52nd Street is populated by members of the highest social circles, including Rufus Rondell and his two sisters. These spinsters are the haughty Adela Rondell and the timid Letitia Rondell. Adela is furious when Rufus marries beautiful comedian Evelyn Macy. While Letitia defends the newlyweds, Adela refuses to accept their love and disowns Rufus. While Rufus and Evelyn are on a European tour, Evelyn's friends Sid and Jack open their own nightclub and hire accordion player and immigrant Fiorello Zamarelli.
