24 Hours of a Woman's Life plot
The writer Robert Sterling visits a cafe at a time when a local scandal becomes known. To reassure the other visitors, Sterling tells them about something similar, which he saw years ago. He was in Monte Carlo hosting a young widow whom he knew well. One night, when he persuaded her to go to the casino, the widow was irresistibly attracted to a young casino visitor, a gambler, who became desperate after losing all his money on the roulette. Sterling describes how they fell in love and how both were subsequently faced with difficult decisions about their future.
