In the Netherlands, Valery Gergiev is best known as chief conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, which he led from 1995 to 2008. But Gergiev has many more notes to his singing. Thus, since 1988, this ardent guardian of the Russian musical heritage has also been the artistic and general director of the legendary Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg and as such is responsible for the talents and employment of two thousand employees and eight hundred performers. Gergiev, who conducts a concert almost every day of the year, keeps all these balls in the air with an unbridled drive to travel and work ("I can work twice as hard") and a leadership style that tolerates no contradiction ("You cannot start without me"). Gergiev allowed the camera everywhere and we get a multifaceted picture of this workaholic.
