Some images are innocent: the look the father casts on his newborn child, people watching a solar eclipse, a provocative revue girl, Karel Appel looking at the canvas. But slowly less innocent images seep into the compilation: whites measuring the nose of an African tribe, Dutch people giving the Nazi salute, the terror of the arrested Nicolae and Elena Ceauçescu, and emaciated African children during a migration. Without a preconceived plan, the filmmakers chose material that made them curious and touched them. Then they watched how the puzzle pieces fit together. Their working method is inspired by the way in which the dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham composed his performances.
