Wien vor der Nacht plot
Director Robert Bober explores Vienna before Nazism. The documentary looks 100 years back to the period between the end of the monarchy of Austria-Hungary and the joining of the Alpine Republic with Hitler's Germany. At the time, Vienna was considered the cultural capital of Europe and the city had a large Jewish community that included such intellectuals as Stefan Zweig, Arthur Schnitzler, Joseph Roth, Franz Werfel and Sigmund Freud. 'Wien vor der Nacht' is also a personal film, because Bober incorporates the story of his great-grandfather who was Jewish.
