The director describes the position of the child in French society from the Middle Ages to the present, especially from the Ancien Régime to the Third Republic. Everything passes through a critical eye that is at once biting and sometimes indignant: social legislation enacted by the ruling class, motherhood, the parent-child relationship, working from a very early age among the less well-off, housing , the law, education, various theories and more.
