Views on Vermeer plot
Documentary devoted to the work of the seventeenth-century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Four contemporary photographers, three artists, three writers, two curators, an architect, an art dealer and an art historian tell about their admiration for his work in twelve chapters. Among them Tracy Chevalier, the author of the historical novel Girl with a Pearl Earring; American photojournalist Steve McCurry; the American artist Chuck Close and the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf. In each chapter a special quality of Vermeer's work is discussed that makes the viewer look at that work with different eyes. From the way he painted bricks, through the scenes he chose, to the hidden political themes in his work. And that he probably had a camera obscura when making his paintings.
