Unearthed plot
"The film the fracking industry would prefer buried."
Only four people per square kilometer live in the beautiful South African Karoo steppe. Nature and tranquility are endless, but the Karoo – which means “thirsty land” – suffers from severe water shortages and skyrocketing unemployment. Could fracking, the promising new way of extracting shale gas, not bring prosperity to the region and its inhabitants, as the South African government and the local foreman of Shell are preaching? Debut director Jolynn Minnaar, who was born and raised in the Karoo, personally investigates the pros and cons.
