Filmmaker Boni-Claverie comes from a very privileged background, once even spent a holiday with (the then future) King Willem-Alexander, but is still often the subject of discrimination today. How is it possible that someone with her social position still experiences a disadvantage? In “Trop Noire pour Être Française?” she examines racism in France on the basis of her own history and that of French colonialism. She discusses with historians, sociologists and experts by experience whether the Republic lied about its ideals of freedom, equality and brotherhood.
