Toonders Denkraam plot
Marten Toonder seemed to live in different worlds: the practical and the magical. In the documentary Toonders Denkraam Hans Polak tries to find out where the storyteller got his inspiration from. Did Toonder draw on the I Ching and Buddhism, astrology and the works of Gustav Jung for his Bommelsaga? On the basis of six narrators - such as son Eiso Toonder, Toonder's pupil Dick Matena, his biographer Wim Hazeu and publisher Hans Matla - the multifaceted character of the creator of figures such as Tom Poes, Wammes Waggel, professor Sickbock and Bulle Bas is sketched. Toonder's thinking frame is based on images and stories that show the magic of Toonder's creations, visually and substantively, as well as on archive material, photos and stories about the realistic Toonder.
