Theo Who Lived plot

In the late fall of 2012, Theo Padnos, a struggling American journalist, traveled to Syria to cover the country's civil war. He was promptly kidnapped by a branch of Al Qaeda. Since he was fluent in Arabic, his captors suspected he was working for the CIA. He was brutally tortured for months during interrogation. But his speaking skills, coupled with his remarkable communicative skills, also led to an extraordinary commitment to and understanding of his captors. By the time of his release, twenty-two months later, he had become a close confidant of the top commander of Al Qaeda in Syria...
