The Way Home plot

It looks like the beginning of a warm get-together when filmmaker Wael Kadlo picks up his mother from the airport in Beirut. But Kadlo, born in Damascus in 1980, now wants to ask his mother the necessary questions. After his parents divorced when he was a toddler, he grew up with his grandmother. He saw little of his parents after that. While mother and son are cleaning string beans together, his painful story comes to the fore. Kadlo has his parents tell his history in chronological order – from their point of view. He asks questions and refrains from accusatory remarks. Their stories are interwoven with shots of places vital in Kadlo's childhood and where later civil protests took place when Syria was in deep crisis.
