The Vanishing Point plot
More than fifteen years ago, filmmaker Bani Khoshnoudi was forced to leave Iran after her documentary, The Silent Majority Speaks, was banned by the regime. Her family had been fighting oppression for much longer. The Vanishing Point, edited by Claire Atherton, is Khoshnoudi's visual exploration of the memory of a family and a country. She visits her childhood home, which is empty but still filled with melancholy, alienation, and anger. Political protests, filmed from the 1980s to the present, and personal belongings form the common thread throughout the documentary.
