The Things I Cannot Change plot

Three weeks with the lively family of Kenneth and Gertrude Bailey and their nine children in Montreal sheds light on poverty in North America in 1967. Father Kenneth, a chef by trade, has been unemployed for two years. While the welfare pays the rent and bread is collected from the church, the tenth scion is on the way. Trouble mounts when Kenneth gets into a fight with a man who owes him money.
