The Session Man plot

The film tells the story of Nicky Hopkins, the prolific and gifted British session pianist for some of the greatest rock bands the world has ever seen. My father wanted to go so I went along. Typical documentary that would have fit better in 50 minutes Hour of the Wolf. Little music, many talking heads where for a long time one cannot say why Nicky Hopkins was so important and so brilliant (and why he did not become a permanent member of a supergroup), except that he is talented. At one point a few other pianists are given the floor who elaborate on this a bit more but it never really goes deep. Basically interesting and also educational on several levels but as a documentary and experience it is mediocre. 2.5*.
