A fitting nickname for Clarence Avant, who learned the ropes as a manager from Joe Glaser. Avant played a key role in the careers of Bill Withers, Lalo Shifrin, Jam & Lewis, and Barack Obama, among others. Although he still presents himself as someone for whom 'the numbers' count, his influence extends far beyond that. A tribute to a fascinating personality who played a defining role in American culture behind the scenes.
