The Best of Secter & the Rest of Secter plot

Joel Secter, a Jewish boy from suburban Winnipeg, Canada, has become fascinated with his Uncle David; a bisexual, independent filmmaker from New York. Why this interest? Is it about his charm and charisma? Or is it more about his alternative lifestyle and revolutionary ideas? It started with an accidental rental video titled "Feelin' Up," a sex comedy he discovered in the 1970s. He rented it for a group of friends and his heart turned at the end credits: it turned out to be written, produced and directed by his uncle David. Some twenty years later, he tries to record his uncle's story in a documentary.
