The Art of Observing Life plot
Over a longer period of time, Marina Goldovskaya interviewed the pioneers of American documentary: Richard Leacock, Albert Maysles, DA Pennebaker, Robert and Anne Drew, Chris Hegedus, Jonas Mekas, Lionel Rogosin, Allan King and Michael Rubbo – some of whom are now deceased. From their living rooms they tell about the making of films that are now considered milestones in the history of documentary. Drew, Leacock, Maysles and Pennebaker talk about designing a lightweight, portable sync-sound camera for Primary, setting a new standard for documentary filming and introducing cinéma vérité to America. You can also see how the documentary greats inspire their audience with their dedication and experience during masterclasses for film students.
