The Art of Living in Danger plot
For more than 40 years, women in Iran have struggled for equal rights. The family law that offered hope in 1974 was annulled after the Iranian Revolution (1978-1979). There is fear, especially of male violence indoors. Filmmaker Mina Keshavarz follows a group of women who fight for change. Keshavarz addresses her grandmother, whom she never knew. Nurijan died before the revolution, Mina was born after it. But now grandma is a symbol of something much bigger. Why her sad story has been kept silent for decades within the family only becomes clear later.
