Summa plot

A young Belarusian artist leaves her husband in Minsk to visit a friend, the elderly painter Andrzej Strumillo, in his idyllic home in Poland. It is a fairytale place, surrounded by wetlands and a river. There are horses – for whom the two artists share a love – and dogs. For her, the visit, which has taken two years since the last time, is a welcome variation on life in the city, for him a break from his solitary existence. That is marked by old age: a crooked spine, sore knees. "Sad that life is so short," he says.
