Street Fight plot
"Sometimes elections are won and lost in the streets..."
Marshall Curry follows the street fight for mayor of Newark, New Jersey in 2002 between old-timer Sharpe James and newcomer Cory Booker. Both are Democrat and Black. That's where the similarities end. Where the 32-year-old idealist Booker with a university degree from Yale battles facts and arguments, the 66-year-old 'self-made man' James knows how to play on sentiment in an adequate way. But not only that. Director Curry shows how the municipal police as the strong arm of James, who has held sway in the city for fourteen years, plays a dubious role in the campaign.
