Entertaining but ultimately too short and one-sided documentary about the film career of Sylvester Stallone. His greatest successes, the Rocky and Rambo films, rightly receive the most attention, but at the same time this means that the balance is difficult to find. However, the sympathetic Stallone is an easy talker and he has enough nice anecdotes to keep things interesting.

I thought this documentary was very vague. In the field of Rocky and Rambo it goes a little further in depth, but in the end I can't say that I learned much more about the person Sly. It was nice to see that he was vulnerable about the moments before Rocky, and the reason why he had difficulty gaining a foothold in Hollywood, but this all seemed to happen very quickly in the documentary. From one moment to the next he had a collaboration and suddenly a career. I feel like I'm still missing a bit of 'struggle' between these moments.

All in all, it looks nice and that's what it's all about in the end.

Sly, a product from the 80s and (also) 90s in particular. From the time when actors were not actors but larger-than-life 'stars'; products of their time and slaves to their own narcissistic ambitions. With Stallone, the films had no actor, the actor had the film.

Times are changing, especially since the turn of the century, for the Stallones and Schwarzeneggers; who still rely on past success. Success that we haven't seen in this form for a long time, society is changing, etc. etc., but the further their success years get further behind us, the more fun those films become.

Actors are no longer products of their time, but people who are carefully selected with social trends in mind by the film studio bosses. This doesn't always make it more fun. Times are changing and that's a good thing.

That being said. Entertaining but rather superficial documentary that is always mentioned in the same breath as Schwarzenegger's. They are not comparable as this one is much shorter and mainly focuses on the Rocky and Rambo films and hardly discusses private matters. What does emerge in both documentaries is that the men had to work hard for it, are certainly not stupid and that childhood trauma can bring out both the best and the worst in people.
