Six Yards to Democracy plot

A politician came up with the idea of distributing free saris in the poor parts of the Indian city of Lucknow to win votes. Many women were oppressed and died. Except at election time, politicians do not look after the poorest. For example, the slums in which they live are simply cleared to make way for advancing neighborhoods of the more affluent.
