Sicily: The Wonder of the Mediterranean plot

Documentary in which historian Michael Scott examines to what extent 3000 years of occupation and colonization have determined the identity of Sicily. He begins his journey through Sicily at Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. For the ancient Greeks, Sicily was a dangerous and unpredictable place, yet they set foot on the island's east coast 3,000 years ago and soon thriving Sicily posed a threat to Athens. From then on a long history began, first under the Romans and the Barbarians. Later it was part of the Eastern Roman Empire. How did all these conquerors shape the island today and what lessons did the Sicilians learn from their turbulent past?
