Documentary consisting of interviews with survivors of the Jiabiangou and Mingshui re-education camps, set up by the Chinese communist regime in the barren wasteland of the Gobi Desert in the late 1950s. The country was under ten years of communist rule (the revolution happened in 1949) and a large number of adult citizens were former nationalists. Everywhere you looked, people were suspected of not having the right ideology.
