Sea Blind, the Price of Shipping Our Stuff plot

Ninety percent of everything we buy comes to us by ship. Ships bring us food, clothing, furniture and the latest gadgets. The largest ship in the world carries 19,200 containers, which fit one hundred and seventeen million pairs of shoes. At the same time, shipping is one of the most polluting, unregulated and closed industries in the world. “We seem to be sea blind,” says climate journalist Bernice Notenboom. “The bigger the container ships get, the less we know about them.” For this documentary, Bernice Notenboom traveled through seven different countries where she spoke with scientists, harbor barons, environmental organizations and many more people. She also visits residents of Terschelling, who live close to container shipping.
