After making many Hollywood films, musician Elvis Presley had not performed in public for seven years in 1968. His place at the top of popular music had been taken by the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. In this documentary we see Elvis return to rock 'n' roll with a big live show. Through interviews with celebrities and never-before-seen footage, this crucial period in Elvis' career is relived.

Perhaps the most beautiful tribute to Elvis. Many films and documentaries have been made about him, usually about different periods in his life. Or they present him as a parody. The young man with the pompadour or the Las Vegas star as an echo of a distant past. Return of the King delves deeper into Elvis's difficult period. The inner struggle to stay relevant, the battle between music and success, and especially how he was kept on a leash, so that we only saw a fraction of his true potential. With fitting testimonials and footage that do him justice and attempt to show him as a person and his true passion for music. Too much is hidden among the Hollywood dollar signs, described by, among others, manager Colonel Parker.
