Procès Mbako, Anioto Homme Léopard plot

The resistance of the Congolese population against the Belgian colonization and its repression took various forms. The Anioto-Leopard men, a secret militia, carried out the sentences of the traditional chiefs like ghosts at night. Accomplices of the colonial occupation were also targeted. The attacks were carried out as if the victim had been attacked by a leopard. One of the chiefs, Mbako, was also a member of the Mabela, the esoteric association of the Leopard Men. After a series of attacks on colonial auxiliaries, he was arrested and hanged in 1933 in Wamba, in northeastern Congo.
