Pray for Japan plot
On March 11, 2011, the coast of the Tohoku area of Japan was destroyed by a 9.0 earthquake and the ensuing tsunami. Pray for Japan takes place in the devastated area of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture, with a population of more than 160,000 people. Filmmaker Stu Levy, an American living in Japan, filmed the aftermath of the tsunami while volunteering in the area for six weeks, shooting over 50 hours of footage. The documentary focuses on four main issues of the tragedy; school, shelter, family and volunteers. In each of these cases, we meet victims who have faced and fought hard obstacles to overcome them. Through this documentary, audiences are empowered to grasp the immense impact of the disaster, and the battle these heroes fought in the name of their loved ones and their birthplace.
