Patrasche: A Dog of Flanders, Made in Japan plot

A portrait about the virtually unknown in Belgium, but immensely popular story about the artistic Antwerp orphan boy Nello and his dog Patrasche. The film examines why the novella 'A Dog of Flanders' from 1872 by the British writer Ouida (pseudonym of Maria Louise Ramé) is hardly known in Flanders, while it is so successful elsewhere in the world, especially in Japan. The story is set in Antwerp and ends with the tragic death of the main characters on Christmas night, under the painting The Descent from the Cross by Rubens in the Antwerp cathedral.
