The end of the GDR brought new artistic freedoms to the reunified Berlin. Shortly after the fall of the Wall, rebel leader Frank Castorf was appointed artistic director of the Volksbühne. His way of working changed the public's perception of this theater. After the reunification in East Berlin, the public was happy to be challenged by a series of radical productions and theater marathons. The Volksbühne became a legend.
