The central protagonist of this film is 23-year-old Bakary from Mali. He left his family behind to build a better life in Europe. He has now found work in a tomato nursery in Spain, but he has no papers and therefore no right to a house. He sleeps on the street with about twenty fellow sufferers. The film consists of three parts. In the first part, we are introduced to Bakary in Spain. The second part is set in Rabat, Morocco, where many Africans dream about traveling to mainland Europe. Many try to make the crossing, but most of them are arrested by the police and sent back. For example, Adam was left in the Sahara with 55 others. He walked back to civilization in 25 days, a journey that many of his companions did not survive. The last part is set in the village where Bakary was born and where his family lives poor but peacefully.
