Subtitle: 'a study into the boundary conditions of pareidolia'. Pareidolia, from the Greek para (next to) and eidolon (image), is defined as "The tendency of the brain to recognize meaningful patterns in random structures." With a semi-scientific attitude, director Blom approaches interviewees in a fixed pattern. Introduced by landscape shots, pareidolic close-ups and a computer-animated map, numbered subjects are interviewed near Lourdes and Loch Ness - areas where Blom expects increased pareidolia. As a talking head, each interviewee is asked a few standard questions (about favorite death, favorite food, bad character traits, etc.) and then shows more or less pareidolian objects of interest. Below that are stones, stalactite and a tomato, in which faces or animals are recognized.
