Our School plot

Alin, Beni, Dana and Elisabeta are children from a Roma community. They live with their families in dilapidated houses in the fields outside the small Romanian town of Targu Lapus. When European policy in 2006 stipulates that the severely discriminated Roma in Romania have the same right to a decent education as the rest of the population, this means a new start for the children. They exchange their dilapidated, makeshift school for a real school with Romanian children in the center of the city. Positive and full of expectations about better education and the opportunity to make friends with Romanian peers, the children start at their new school. There, however, they face discrimination, isolation and low expectations. The Romanian teachers hardly know what to do with the newcomers and struggle with prejudice, fear and ignorance.
